In 1970, a U.S. Athena missile was fired from a location in Utah, scheduled to land in the White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico. It went 900 miles off course, without apparent explanation, and crashed in the Sonora Desert in Mexico, over a hundred miles south of the Big Bend area in Texas.
A few years later. a Saturn booster rocket used in the Apollo program broke up over the same area.
The U.S. military sent a team of engineers to investigate the area, which starts some 25 miles north of the tiny community of Ceballos, Durango.
One of the first things the engineers discovered was that it was impossible to transmit radio waves in the impacted area -- walkie-talkies and portable radios would not work, television signals could not be received in the scattered neighboring ranches, microwave or satellite signals failed to penetrate. Even airplanes flying over the region experienced instrument malfunctions. Apparently, some sort of magnetic force stifles radio waves in the region.
Thus, it became known as the Zone of Silence -- some 1,500 square miles of uninhabited flat terrain, loaded with thorny desert plants, infested with poisonous snakes and containing bizarre animal mutants.
For example, insects and tortoises are known to grow to three times normal size. The tortoises have no tail. Centipedes are a foot long with purple heads. And it is the only region where cactus grows in specific shades of purple and red.
In the 1800s, scattered farmers attempted to eke out an existence in this region whereupon they became aware of the "hot" stones that fell nightly from the sky. Apparently, the Zone of Silence is a magnet for meteorites. There is a famed "field of meteorites" area containing millions of meteorites scattered everywhere.
In the 1950s, a significant meteorite crashed in the vicinity. According to researchers, it contained material as old as the universe.
On February 8, 1969, the largest meteorite ever found on Earth (the size of a Buick) crashed into the Zone of Silence. This meteor is known as the Allende Meteorite.
The 1970 U.S. military team of engineers discovered the area to be a hot bed for meteorites. The soil contains significant magnetic ore, possibly due to eons of meteorite bombardment from above. Plus, the mountains that surround the Zone of Silence also have various uranium deposits.
The Zone of Silence lies south of the 30th parallel, just north of the Tropic of Cancer -- the same latitude as the Bermuda Triangle and other bizarre planetary anomalies.
Ancient ruins have been located in the Zone of Silence but archeologists have been unable to determine the age and exact purpose of these structures, which were possibly utilized as an astronomical observatory. Furthermore, there have been discoveries of six-mile long man-made platforms, a man-made hill in the shape of a pyramid, and carved stone statues of animals.
Not surprisingly, the Zone of Silence is also a Mecca for UFO activity.
In 1976, a huge rectangular UFO passed over the town of Ceballos, witnessed by virtually everyone in town. The same year, a photograph was taken (by a tourist) of a UFO that had landed on a hill within the Zone of Silence.
Travelers through the Zone of Silence have reported seeing strange lights maneuvering at night, floating motionless, changing colors, then taking off at great speed. Other witnesses who have spotted these mysterious lights at night have discovered vegetation the next day that appeared to have been burned by fire.
Encounters of mysterious beings have also been reported within the Zone of Silence. The most typical personal encounter has been with Nordic types -- a common UFO entity that is 6 to 7 feet tall, with long blond hair and blue eyes. In UFO terminology, they are often referred to as Pleiadians.
Reportedly, two months before the U.S. Athena missile crashed into the Sonora Desert, Wernher von Braun (premier U.S. rocket scientist) made a visit to the Zone of Silence, creating speculation that the missile may have been purposely fired into the Zone of Silence to give U.S. personnel an excuse to enter the Zone for some undisclosed purposes (such as exploration or experimentation). The U.S. military even built a special railroad spur into the Zone to haul away the remains of the rocket, tons of magnetic dirt and perhaps other items.
Life is a mystery. You can accept it as is, leading to the bliss of ignorance -- or you can explore it, leading to the next mystery.
"Hello darkness my old friend...
I've come to talk with you again...
Because a vision softly creeping...
Left its seeds while I was sleeping...
And the vision that was planted in my brain...
Still remains...
Within the sound of silence."
(lyrics by Simon & Garfunkel)
If you want to explore a true mystery, spend your next vacation in the Zone of Silence. Leave your cell phone at home, keep an eye out for snakes and be very polite to seven-feet blond Nordics.
Welcome to the Twilight Zone.

Majestic-12
On July 4, 1947, an extraterrestrial craft crashed near Roswell, New Mexico.
The wreckage and dead alien bodies were soon transported to Wright-Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio. Cover stories were established with the media and the truth was kept from the public.
Apparently, a lone extraterrestrial (ET) survived the ordeal.
It was the beginning of the Cold War between the USA and the USSR -- paranoia was rampant in high levels of government and the military establishment.
Over the next few months, the federal government created the Atomic Energy Commission, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Security Council, the Department of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
On September 24, 1947, President Truman created Operation Majestic-12 (MJ-12), a Top Secret intelligence operation that was responsible directly to the President of the United States. This committee of 12 esteemed specialists was commissioned to deal with all matters concerning UFOs and extraterrestrials.
The original 12 members:
1) James V. Forrestal -- became Secretary of Defense in July of 1947. He resigned in March of 1949, a month before he supposedly committed suicide at Bethesda Naval Hospital. One year later, he was replaced by General Walter Bedell Smith (Eisenhower's Chief of Staff and former U.S. Ambassador to Moscow).
2) Admiral Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter -- became the first director of the CIA (created in September of 1947). He publically disclosed that UFOs were real and "through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense."
3) General Nathan F. Twining -- commander of the Air Material Command (based at Wright-Patterson Air Base in Ohio). On July 8, 1947, he made a two-day trip to New Mexico due to a sudden important matter. He was responsible for creating Project Sign, a UFO study group.
4) General Hoyt S. Vardenberg -- Air Force Chief of Staff. He ordered the destruction of the original Project Sign reports affirming that UFOs were real.
5) Dr. Vannevay Bush -- a scientist who organized the Office of Scientific Research and Development in 1943, which led to the production of the first atomic bomb.
6) Gordon Gray -- Assistant Secretary of the Army in 1947, promoted to Secretary of the Army in 1949. He became a special assistant on national security affairs to President Truman.
7) Dr. Detlev Bronk -- a biophysicist and physiologist who was a medical advisor to the Atomic Energy Commission and Chairman of the National Research Council.
8) Dr. Jerome Hunsaker -- an aviation designer who was the Chairman of the Departments of Aeronautical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
9) General Robert M. Montegue -- was the base commander at an Atomic Energy Commission facility in New Mexico in 1947.
10) Sidney W. Souers -- a retired rear admiral who was the first Director of the National Security Council in 1947.
11) Dr. Lloyd V. Berkner -- was an electrical engineer who headed a study that created the Weapons Systems Evaluation Group.
12) Dr. Donald Menzel -- an astronomer who was a director of the Harvard College Observatory.
Also in 1947, the Air Force created Project Blue Book to determine if the UFOs were a threat to national security. Project Grudge was another operation performing the same tasks. These programs studied approximately 12,000 reported sightings and determined that 90 percent were either explainable phenomena or hoaxes. The remaining 10 percent were considered legitimate Alien encounters.
Over the next couple of years, the lone surviving ET from the Roswell crash had been in contact with his home planet (called Serpo). Communication (in English) between Serpo and scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory had been established.
In July of 1952, there was a massive UFO flyover of Washington, D.C., on two consecutive weekends -- strange objects on radar, moving at incredible speed, visible sightings of orange discs. Jet fighters were scrambled from Newcastle Air Force Base in Delaware. When the fighters approached, the objects disappeared. When the fighters ran low on fuel and returned to base, the objects reappeared.
Fear and paranoia of an alien invasion caused additional pressure on those involved to maintain a high level of security and secrecy.
In 1953, President Eisenhower created a program called Project Gleem, later called Project Aquarius, to be controlled by the National Security Council and MJ-12. It was funded by the CIA (black budget). Its purpose was to collect intelligence data from UFO sightings, Identified Alien Crafts (IAC) sightings and contacts with Alien Life forms.
Additional contact between ETs and USA authorities occurred -- a meeting was arranged.
On February 20, 1954, President Eisenhower (and others) met with a contingent of ETs at Muroc Air Base (now called Edwards Air Force Base) in the Mohave Desert in California. Eisenhower supposedly had been on a visit to a dentist in Palm Springs. Secrecy was of upmost importance. Five Alien craft had landed. Discussions ensued. The ETs offered technology but wanted certain things in return. Various accounts of the results of this meeting make it difficult to determine the outcome. Some of the USA participants didn't trust the ETs, feeling it was a ploy to gain trust, then perhaps attack.
On February 22, 1954, the USA installed 60 Thor nuclear missiles in Britain.
Life goes on.
Many encounters with extraterrestrial entities have occurred prior to and after July of 1947. These events have been withheld from the public. Advanced technology has been gleaned from these encounters and also withheld from the public, kept within the hidden domain of elite rulers for elite purposes.
Those who rule Planet Earth conduct business in secrecy. Those who seek to expose the truth are ridiculed. And those who follow blindly suffer the consequences.
On September 21, 1987, President Ronald Reagan gave a speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations where he emphasized how drastically our planet would change if we were under a threat from an alien civilization. Perhaps he was preparing us for the day of disclosure.
We dwell on a small planet of an average star (the sun) in an insignificant galaxy (Milky Way) that is merely one of zillions of galaxies, in a far corner of a vast universe, that may be only one of many universes. We are not alone.
The most basic question is not what's best for the planet -- it's who should decide what's best for the planet.

UFO Truth Embargo
Stephen Bassett is the founder of the Paradigm Research Group and executive director of the Extraterrestrial Political Action Committee, also called X-PPAC. He is the only registered lobbyist in the USA representing UFO and Extraterrestrial researchers and activists.
On February 18, 2011, Bassett sent an open letter to one of the new freshman U.S. Senators in Washington. The following is a partial transcript of that letter.
Senator Xxxxx, there is something quite important you need to know. Beginning in the summer of 1947, and more formally in early 1953, the United States government instituted a policy of embargo on the formal acknowledgement of an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race.
This policy was initiated for national security reasons and pursued with great vigor and considerable resources. This truth embargo, while it has weakened considerably during the past ten years, remains in place to this day.
History will argue at length whether this embargo was good policy and lasted too long. Whatever that verdict may be, history will show that information was withheld, disinformation was introduced into the public domain, researchers were intimidated and perhaps murdered, research organizations were infiltrated and dismantled, and witnesses to events and evidence were threatened.
It is the matter of witness intimidation that is most germane to this letter. You see, Senator, as reported to researchers, it was not uncommon for representatives of the U.S. military and intelligence agencies to tell witnesses they would be killed if they spoke about their UFO/ET experiences. They were also told that even if they did speak out, no one would believe them.
Senator, the Cold War has been over for twenty years. We are well into the 21st Century.
Does it concern you the United States Congress has done nothing to resolve this matter and has next to no oversight of the secret structures that manage the extraterrestrial issue?
Does it concern you that American presidents are not fully briefed on this matter or the depth of their briefing is often based upon their political affiliation?
Respectfully,
Stephen Bassett
Executive Director
